| Magnetic Stripe Cards These are plastic cards with a magnetic stripe at their back consisting of different tracks to store user-specific data. These are the most economical. The cards used can be Hi Co or Lo Co. Hi Co cards have higher coercivity as compared to Lo Co cards and hence have longer life and are more resistant to external electro-magnetic interference. Wide range of readers are available for this type of solution. These solutions are best suited for the the application where on-line connectivity is available and there is no need of data storage on the card. |

SIM Cards: GSM / CDMA RUIM Cards
These are the Smart cards used for telecom applications and are generally known as SIM cards. There are three types of telecom smart cards GSM, CDMA RUIM and GSM –CDMA combo. Typically these cards vary from 16K to 256 K types. The most popular cards are 16K, 32K and 64K type.
The GSM cards are the most popular used by GSM mobile service providers, the RUIM cards are used by CDMA mobile service providers. The third type i.e. combo cards are used by some service providers who wants to offer the flexibility of both GSM and CDMA to their customers.

| Contactless
Memory Cards The contactless Memory Cards is a Smart Card which communicates wirelessly with the reader, and, therefore, has no direct contact plate for data exchange. Data between the card and the reader are transmitted by a high freaquency signal, according to ISO/IEC 14443 Typ A. The phase signal and the energy are transmitted via the high frequency signal from the reader to the card. Quick transaction time, simple usage and robustness are the outstanding features of this card. If the reader has a range upto 10 cm, then the card must simply be presented within this distance. There is no need for the time consuming procedure of inserting the card into the reader. High security features area big advantage of this card. Mutual authentication, encryption and a fixed unique serial number are some of these features. Anti-collision makes multitag operations possible. User definable access conditions and increase/decrease purse functions and additional performance can be taken advantage of. |
